RiDE helps youths earn five-figure income — MB

SHAH ALAM, Jan 3 — Recipients of the Roda Darul Ehsan (RiDE) initiative are earning good monthly income with some drawing five-figure, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the programme, which was introduced in 2020, offers many incentives to p-hailing riders to generate income and the handover ceremony that took place recently was celebrated lively with thousands of young people in attendance.

“To date, the state government has received more than 14,000 applications for the RiDE programme with a total of 6,200 applicants this year alone.

“The programme has helped a total of 6,500 youths, with some of them earning five-figure income,” he said in a Facebook post.

Amirudin added that 3,000 beneficiaries of the scheme were given Employee’s Provident Fund (EPF) and Social Security Organisation (Socso) contributions as well as the Selangor General Insurance Scheme (Insan) coverage.

Previously, Amirudin said that the idea to set up the RiDE programme emerged after looking at the need to protect p-hailing riders following high demands from the public towards the sector, especially after the spread of Covid-19.

Every year, the programme provides cash assistance amounting to RM500 but last year, the state government improved on the initiative by adding RM50 for EPF contribution.
