Selangor FC’s Yoodo red giants to compete in MPL

SHAH ALAM, Jan 19 — Selangor FC today introduced the ‘Yoodo Red Giants’ as their esports team ahead of next month’s 2023 Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL).

Selangor FC esports head Simon Lim said the Yoodo Red Giants, who will be managed by 26-year-old Mohd Erwin, will comprise Muhammad Yaacob, 23, Mohd Hakim, 22, Syed Naufal Fitri, 20, Ilman Zareef, 19, Muhammad Amir Zakwan, 19, and Muhammad Haqqulah, 16.

“We are targeting the team to be among the top four in the MPL this time and, for that, we are training them as professional athletes by putting them up in a gaming house here.

“We will also have a fitness coach who will train them and a nutritionist who will take care of and monitor their nutritional needs,” he told reporters after the ceremony to announce the squad at the Selangor FC Training Centre here today.

The Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, as chairman of Selangor FC, graced the event. Also present was Selangor FC chief operating officer Aladdin Mostafa.

Lim said for this year’s MPL, they have allocated between RM200,000 and RM400,000 for the team, which comprises all aspects of expenses including salary.

He said they have also made plans to expand the sport for PUBG events.

“In our planning, after this, we want to establish a PUBG team,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yoodo head Chow Tuck Mun said he hopes the collaboration with Selangor FC for the new team will be successful, in addition to being able to make the country proud.
