Selangor proposes mandatory use of SELangkah app to curb Covid-19 spread

PETALING JAYA, Jan 6 — The Selangor government is looking into making the use of the SELangkah (Step In, Safely) mobile app mandatory as part of its additional measure to curb the spread of Covid-19 spread in the state.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amiruidn Shari said the effort would help ease the contact tracing process among individuals who tested positive following the spread of new variants from China.

“When the Federal government has set several criteria (to curb the spread), we will see what we can do to monitor the situation or to take additional measures, such as making contact tracing compulsory through SELangkah.

“The state executive councillor for health is developing several measures so that if there is an outbreak, we can locate where it occurred,” he said at a press conference after launching the Selangor International Junior Golf Championship, here yesterday.

Amirudin said that according to Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the spread of the BA.5.2 and BF.7 variants in the country is under control.

“The spread began in November and December of last year, but it is under control.

“What we need to do now is increase the second booster shot rate because the vaccine has been proven effective in curbing the virus,” he added.

On December 26, 2022, China announced that it would ease its Covid-19 restrictions and open its borders from January 8, even amid growing concerns over a surge of Covid-19 cases in the country.
