Selangor to offer 200,000 vaccine doses to prevent Covid-19 from spreading again — MB

PETALING JAYA, Jan 7 — The state government will prepare up to 200,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses as part of its effort to continue the Selangor Vaksin (Selvax) programme, starting yesterday, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the doses are a part of the remaining 600,000 doses which the state government previously purchased to protect the community.

“We have an estimated 500,000 to 600,000 doses remaining. For this time, I believe under Selvax we can provide between 100,000 to 200,000 doses for the public.

“However, the amount will vary as on the Federal level, a similar initiative is already underway. As such, I am confident Selvax will help expedite the inoculation process,” Amirudin said during the launch of Institusi Buku Darul Ehsan’s Kedai Buku Rencana bookstore, earlier today.

On Friday (January 6), state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said Selvax will be continued, including for sedation shots at 15 Selcare Clinic branches, as well as at THE KL Clinic in Selangor.

Registration can be done on a walk-in basis, but the public is encouraged to make an appointment by contacting 1-800-22-6600.

Meanwhile, the Menteri Besar said any additional measures to avoid the risk of re-spreading Covid-19 by Chinese tourists will be decided by next week.

“Several suggestions have already been made, which will be examined further this Wednesday (January 11) during the Selangor State Executive Council (MMKN),” he said.

Earlier on, Amirudin said discussions will be held with ministers regarding the standard operating procedures (SOP) for the entry of Chinese tourists, given Selangor’s position as Malaysia’s main gateway.
