State govt to decide on bank stabilisation proposal at Batang Kali-Genting Highlands route soon

AMPANG JAYA, Jan 10 — The state government has reviewed several proposals to strengthen the bank along the Batang Kali-Genting Highlands route in Section 14, Hulu Selangor following the landslide incident on December 16 last year.

State executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim said long-term action must be taken to avoid similar incidents from recurring in the area.

“We have reviewed several proposals to strengthen the collapsed bank. Among the proposals are to build retainer walls, cut the hill and rebuild (the bank).

“We are mulling over the proposals and final decisions will be made soon,” he said at a press conference after visiting the landslide incident site at Taman Bukit Permai 2, here yesterday.

The route has been closed since December 16 last year and on Saturday (January 7), one of the lanes was reopened with monitoring from enforcement officers.

The Works Department (JKR) informed that the route was limited only to those working at Genting Highlands where they need to provide acknowledgement letters from their employers as well as Class One vehicles (car, taxi and multipurpose vehicles) and Class Six vehicles (motorcycle and scooter).

Izham went on to say that the reopening of the road has eased the journey of nearly 4,000 people in Selangor who work at the tourism hub.

“We allow them to use the road to go back and forth from work, however, their employers must provide confirmation because the situation is a bit worrying there,” he added.

The Batang Kali landslide incident occurred at the Father’s Organic Farm on December 16 and claimed 31 lives while 61 others were rescued.
