Stormy weather in five Selangor districts until 9pm — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, Jan 21 — Thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds are expected to hit five Selangor districts until 9pm today, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a warning issued at 5.45pm on Facebook, the agency said the districts affected are Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

“Other states that will be similarly affected are Perak (Hilir Perak and Muallim), Pahang (Bentong and Bera), Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah and Jempol) and Johor (Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat and Pontian).

“Meanwhile, the inclement weather are also forecasted to hit Sarawak (Sibu, Selangau,Matu, Dalat, Mukah, Bintulu, Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi) as well as Sabah in Ranau, Lahad Datu, Sandakan and Pitas,” it said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
