By Nasuha Badrul Huzaini

SHAH ALAM, Jan 24 — Selangor is expected to be hit with thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds until 1am tomorrow, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a warning issued at 8.30pm on Facebook, the agency said similar weather conditions are also forecasted in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

“Other areas that will be affected include Perak (Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak and Muallim), Sarawak (Song, Kapit, Bukit Mabong and Limbang) and Sabah (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Nabawan and Keningau),” the agency said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
