16 injured when express bus overturns in Butterworth

BUTTERWORTH, Feb 6 — Fifteen passengers on an express bus experienced scary moments, when the bus they were travelling in skidded before overturning, in an incident at KM 5.5 of the Butterworth Outer Ring Road, here early this morning.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations commander Mohd Faisol Zainudin said the victims, including the bus driver, sustained only minor injuries in the 4.21 am incident.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the JBPM team found that an express bus had skidded and overturned on the side of the road, and we managed to remove 16 victims, including the bus driver, from the vehicle.

“All the victims — six men and 10 women — were given initial treatment by the Ministry of Health officials at the scene, before they were all taken to Seberang Jaya Hospital for further treatment,” he said when contacted here today.

He said the operation ended at 5.29am.
