Aid for deposit to purchase homes to be launched after Aidilfitri — MB

SHAH ALAM, Feb 17 — The Skim Bantuan Biaya Rumah Selangor, aimed at making it easier for state residents to purchase homes, will be launched after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations a few months from now.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the scheme, first announced during the tabling of the 2023 Selangor Budget on November 25 last year, will help residents by providing advance money or deposits.

“Based on the available data, we discovered that up to 60 per cent of individuals who were offered Rumah SelangorKu homes declined to take them, as they lacked the funds to pay the deposit for the downpayment.

“At present, we are waiting for the final paperwork and details from the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS). This is part of the efforts to ensure continued development and shared prosperity,” he said in his speech during the Rumah Idaman Kwasa Damansara groundbreaking ceremony, earlier today.

During the budget’s tabling, Amirudin said RM100 million will be allocated for the scheme to ensure homeownership is within reach, especially for first-time buyers

He said it can also resolve the problems of potential buyers facing the issue of advance payments or deposits, unorganised existing debt burdens, the costs of buying basic furniture, stamp duties, legal fees, and the cost of renting a house.

The scheme provides assistance by:

  • Preparing 10 to 15 per cent in advance money to own LPHS affordable homes.
  • Syariah-compliant financing.
  • Monthly payments that are not burdensome, for a period of five to 10 years.
  • Flexible repayment in the event of making an early settlement of financing.
  • Simplified services for customers via a one-stop central website portal, as well as financial advisory
  • services.
