AirAsia X surges in early trade

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 — AirAsia X Bhd’s share price surged by 25 per cent after reporting an improved financial performance for the quarter ended December 31, 2022.

At 10am, the long-haul low-cost airline’s shares jumped by 17 sen to 85 sen, with 23.24 million units traded.

AirAsia X posted a net profit of RM153.48 million during the quarter on the back of a strong revenue of RM339.29 million, boosted by the year-end peak travel season.

From October to December 2022, the low-cost airline’s ancillary revenue per passenger also rose to RM196 from RM142 in the preceding quarter.

Meanwhile, its Passenger Load Factor (PLF) was healthy at 79 per cent, up by six percentage points from the previous quarter, showing an over 97 per cent recovery of the same period in 2019.
