KAJANG, Feb 10 — Balakong state assemblyman Wong Siew Ki will supply shopping bags to visitors of the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat (JER) affordable basic necessities sales programme in her area, as part of the efforts to support the campaign of reducing plastic bags usage.
She said the bags were initially provided via several programmes organised by both the Balakong state constituency and JER sometime last year.
“The bags included several pamphlets on state government initiatives, so the wider public can be aware of the forms of assistance they can obtain.
“However for today, I did not have time to prepare the bags,” Wong said during the JER sales for Balakong, adjacent to Surau Al-Amin in Taman Cheras Prima, Kajang, yesterday.
She added that up to next month, the state constituency will collaborate with the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) to two additional JER programmes, in Cheras Jaya and Bandar Damai Perdana respectively.
“Today’s programme is the first JER sales for Balakong this year, and the responses from residents has been very encouraging.
“Over 300 shoppers began arriving as early as 7.30am and up to 11.45am. Items including eggs, chicken, beef, and fish, were all sold out,” Wong said.
JER has been extended by PKPS from January 16 to March.
Some of the products it offers include standard chicken (RM10 per piece), Grade B chicken eggs (RM10 per tray), fresh solid beef (RM10 per pack), 5kg cooking oil (RM25), 5kg rice (RM10), and fish (RM6 per pack).
