Bukit Melawati seeks affordable sales prog during Ramadan to lighten locals’ burdens

SHAH ALAM, Feb 26 — The Bukit Melawati state constituency is looking to conduct the sale of affordable basic necessities to lighten the burdens of its residents in obtaining their groceries during the Ramadan period.

Bukit Melawati state assemblyman’s special officer Muhammad Farhan Zulkifli said in order to do so, they will cooperate with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Board (Fama) and the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS).

“By doing so, we will focus on selling six basic items, which include chicken, eggs, fish, frozen beef, rice, and cooking oil, as sold through Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat.

“On its part, Fama will sell fruits and vegetables. We are looking to hold a simultaneous programme involving both agencies so that residents can obtain various necessities in one location,” he said when contacted.

Muhammad Farhan added the programme is scheduled to run for a week or two, before Muslims begin fasting on March 22.

The initiative was taken by Bukit Melawati state assemblyman Juwairiya Zulkifli, following an encouraging response from residents during their collaboration with Fama in 2019.

“We are confident organising this programme will also be met with an encouraging response, based on our initial experience.

“It is clear to us that residents need help like this. As such, the programme gives them great benefits, especially in light of the increased costs of living,” he said.
