PETALING JAYA, Feb 2 — The organising of the recent iterations of the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat (JER) affordable basic necessities sales programme has been met with a warm reception from shoppers, who have remarked an improvement in its quality as well as becoming increasingly disabled-friendly.

Visually-impaired shopper Nor Fatin Nabila Abdul Karim, 32, said she was permitted to make her purchases of basic necessities without having to queue up.

“Although my mother accompanied me to purchase goods, I am thankful for JER’s caring attitude towards the disabled. The sale has been very helpful for those from low-income groups and large households like myself in saving.

“So with such disabled-friendly service, it is comfortable to go out and purchase even if the location is 10 kilometres from home,” she told SelangorKini during the sale programme for the Taman Medan state legislative assembly, at Dataran Desa Sepakat yesterday.

Retiree Nordin Kamil, 63, who has visited JER six times now, said he is very satisfied with the improvements made by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS).

“Despite a long queue, I do not mind it as the organisers are efficient in ensuring the waiting time is not long.

“There is nothing wrong in queuing, seeing as how they are already trying to provide the best service,” he said, adding that he purchased five bags of rice for his children.

Meanwhile, housewife Nor Lelawati Mohd Harnordin, 38, said JER ought to be continued because it helps buyers save on their expenses while also offering quality goods at affordable prices.

“I am very satisfied whenever I come to do shopping here. It may be affordable, but the quality of the items being sold is comparable to those found in supermarkets.

“Today alone I was able to purchase a variety of items for RM70. Elsewhere, it is impossible to buy chicken, beef, fish, oil, eggs and rice at such a price,” she said.

Fellow housewife Nor Rubaila Razali, 36, said she constantly looks forward to the affordable basic necessities programme whenever it comes to Taman Medan.

She said the kitchen items purchased at JER have aided in saving her family’s monthly expenses.

“This is my fourth time coming to JER. Indeed, I await its arrival every time since my husband is the sole breadwinner and I can save money this way.

“With RM50 I can buy food for a week. You cannot buy this anywhere else for this price,” said the mother-of-four.

JER offers goods including standard chicken at a price of RM10 per pack, fresh solid beef (RM10 per pack) and Grade B eggs (RM10 per tray). Other items include mackerel (RM6 per pack), 5kg cooking oil (RM25), and 5kg bags of rice (RM10).
