KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 — The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) aims to distribute Bakul Rahmah to 37,373 household heads from the hardcore poor category this year.
Its minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said the Bakul Rahmah initiative was implemented in collaboration with Yayasan Global Mesra (YGM), involving contributions from corporate bodies, government-linked companies and hypermarkets.
“So far, this initiative does not involve any cost from the government but industry players who are becoming more and more diligent in carrying out corporate social responsibility programmes for the people in need,” he said.
Salahuddin was speaking to reporters after launching the Bakul Rahmah initiative and flagging off the Rahmah Truck at the SSM@Sentral Tower here today, with Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Fuziah Salleh also present.
Elaborating, he said a total of 18,000 Bakul Rahmah will be distributed to recipients this Ramadan, with some 2,000 boxes to be transported on eight trucks to Perak, Kedah and Perlis.
Each Bakul Rahmah contains daily necessities worth RM100 and will be delivered to parliamentary service centres before being distributed to the target groups.
“Therefore, we need honest data from party machinery, including village heads and Village Community Management Council, because this initiative is specifically for the hardcore poor with income less than RM2,500,” Salahuddin said.
