Malaysia to host CyberDSA in August

CYBERJAYA, Feb 14 — The inaugural Cyber Defence and Security Asia Expo and Conference (CyberDSA), a showcase of the current and future trends in cyber defence and security, will be held from August 15 to August 17 this year, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The CyberDSA will feature keynote addresses, talks, round table discussions and exhibits touching on emerging cybersecurity technologies including cyber defence, big data, artificial intelligence and blockchain technology, over the three-day programme.

Communications and Digital Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching said the CyberDSA would act as a bridge in building partnerships and forging collaborations to navigate knowledge, expertise and experience in advancing digitalisation and security.

“Cybersecurity issues are on a never-ending quest and Malaysia is not immune to its threats,” she said at the Cyber Industry Appreciation event, in conjunction with Safer Internet Day (SID) 2023 here today.

Although digitalisation has become part and parcel of daily life and also a key economic driver for Malaysia, the country reportedly incurred RM600 million in losses last year due to cybercrime.

“While the ministry has already embarked on various public-facing initiatives to shore up digital literacy among citizens, we need the support of other industry players to effectively address the prevalence of cybercrime,” Teo said.

In order to sustainably establish a secure cyberspace for all, cooperation between stakeholders, both locally and internationally, is crucial. On this front, Malaysia is already a party to the Asean Cybersecurity Cooperation Strategy 2021-2025.

The Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD), meanwhile, has mooted the creation of a Malaysia – Singapore Cyber Security Roundtable to encourage better cross-country collaboration, she said, adding that the proposed initiative will be held annually to boost cyber security, particularly in terms of coordinating responses to cyber attacks.

Themed Advancing Digitalisation and Security Through Collaboration, CyberDSA is being organised by Aerosea Exhibitions Sdn Bhd and supported by CyberSecurity Malaysia and Malaysian Armed Forces and will see more than 100 exhibitors and draw over 5,000 visitors from 20 countries.
