Malaysia’s total palm oil stocks up 3.26 pct in January 2023

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 — Malaysia’s total palm oil stocks rose 3.26 per cent to 2.27 million tonnes in January 2023 from the 2.20 million tonnes recorded in December last year.

The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), in its industry performance report for January 2023, said that crude palm oil (CPO) stocks decreased by 2.87 per cent to 1.26 million tonnes from 1.29 million tonnes in December.

Processed palm oil stocks gained 12.05 per cent to 1.01 million tonnes from 902,701 tonnes previously.

CPO production dropped 14.73 per cent to 1.38 million tonnes in January from 1.62 million tonnes in December, while palm kernel output was 14.79 per cent lower at 340,369 tonnes.

“Palm oil exports decreased by 22.96 per cent in January to 1.14 million tonnes from 1.47 million tonnes in December while exports of oleo-chemicals eased 7.56 per cent to 210,936 tonnes compared with 228,181 tonnes,” it reported.

The MPOB said biodiesel exports in January slid 5.09 per cent to 14,239 tonnes from the preceding month and exports of palm kernel cake slipped 8.99 per cent to 202,431 tonnes from 222,427 tonnes.

Palm kernel oil exports tumbled 53.81 per cent in January to 62,102 tonnes from December.

CPO imports in January shrank 35.52 per cent month-on-month (m-o-m) to 9,964 tonnes against 15,453 tonnes in the previous month.

Total palm oil imports surged 123.29 per cent m-o-m to 144,937 tonnes from the preceding month.
