AMPANG, Feb 13 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari attended the Gombak parliamentary seat and Hulu Kelang state constituency’s Chinese New Year celebrations at Taman Melawati’s Ramadan bazaar site yesterday night.
The Gombak MP and his wife Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad were welcomed by over 400 guests of various races and ages.
Also in attendance was Hulu Kelang state assemblyman Saari Sungib, and Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) President Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim.
Amirudin officiated the event by tossing yee sang to symbolise organising the ceremony, as well as distributing angpaus to guests.
In his speech, the Menteri Besar expressed pride over the presence of various races and religions during this year’s Chinese New Year open house.
“This week alone will feature three celebrations. One in Selayang, another earlier this afternoon in Gombak Setia, and here tonight. Despite being close to a month since the festivities, we still celebrate it.
“To build a nation, we must understand and uphold the spirit of respect and tolerance. Malaysia cannot be developed with fear or anger, but with facts, data, and knowledge, so that relationships can be formed,” he said.
The dinner also featured a lion dance show, a singing performance, as well as a lucky draw event.
