MB’s visit to Kampung Delek pier brings positive news

PORT KLANG, Feb 20 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari’s visit to Kampung Delek near here on Saturday (February 18) has brought positive news for the villagers, especially the fishermen.

During his visit in conjunction with the Jelajah Kita Selangor Penyayang roadshow, Amirudin inspected the condition of the pier at the village.

The dilapidated condition of the temporary jetty got the attention of the Selangor government, especially the state’s leader.

Kampung Delek Fishermen’s Association deputy chairman Mahmod Ahmad, 64, said the Menteri Besar has given good feedback on complaints and requests to upgrade the existing jetty to facilitate the work of unloading catches.

“We have sent a letter of request to him (Amirudin) to build a more concrete and comfortable jetty for fishermen to use here.

“Alhamdulillah (Praise God), he gave us good feedback after hearing the problems. We have asked that this matter be realised,” he said when met by SelangorKini.

In the meantime, Mahmod admitted that the 120 fishermen who are members of the association do not have enough funds to upgrade the facility due to their uncertain income.

He said improvements to the pier had been made several times since it was built six years ago but it did not last long due to the wooden structure.

“Last August, we improved this pier using wood with the same structure in use. But after six months or a year, it needs to be replaced.

“With repair costs reaching RM30,000, we cannot afford it. So, we hope that our request to upgrade to concrete or stone can be considered,” he said.

Meanwhile, Amirudin was interested to see the children playing sepak takraw and lato-lato at the same programme, located at the Kampung Delek Football Field.

He spent about 10 minutes having fun while being friendly with the children.

He also presented prizes to the winners of the sepak takraw competition in addition to obliging residents’ requests for selfies with him.

As information, the lato-lato is a game that has two weights attached to a rope where the player will swing the two weights to collide with each other above and below.

Earlier, Amirudin spent almost half an hour having afternoon tea at Warung Kukus, Jalan Tepi Sungai to enjoy the popular dish of the stall, which is grilled tongmo.

The stall’s supervisor Nur Shafirah Sunandar, 27, when met, said she was proud and excited with the presence of the state’s leader at her stall.

“We served him our ‘best seller’ food including grilled tongmo, boiled yam, sambal bilis pancake, teh tarik and kopi o.

“We hope he likes it and is willing to visit here again. We apologise if there were any shortcomings,” she said.

After the leisure activity and afternoon tea, Amirudin then performed the Asar prayer at the Darul Muttaqin Mosque, Kampung Sungai Udang.
