National Archives committed in establishing rapport wth society, spreading information

MELAKA, Feb 20 — The National Archives is committed to reaching out to the community especially the younger generation to play its role and responsibility in disseminating information on important national historical events.

Its director-general Datuk Jaafar Sidek Abdul Rahman said the effort is also to strengthen the spirit of patriotism among people of all ages and across all races in the country.

“The National Archives is also organising several programmes including a knowledge discourse in conjunction with the declaration of Federal Malay States independence, a Rukun Negara and Integration talk.

”Take for example the date today, February 20, the Independence entourage led by Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra travelled to Bandar Hilir to announce the Independence declaration, and this is one of our efforts to enable the younger generation to appreciate and remember the country’s historic events,” he told reporters here today at the Discourse of Knowledge in conjunction with the Declaration of the Independence Date for the Federation of Malaya at the Memorial of the Declaration of Independence in Banda Hilir here today.

Jaafar Sidek added that discussions or platforms for the interaction of knowledge and sharing of such knowledge are also seen as a platform to discuss aspects of the struggle, challenges, unity and consensus of the multi-racial community in obtaining independence.

The National Archives, which is now placed under the National Unity Ministry, will also play a role to improve the unity of the people in the country by using historical material.
