HULU SELANGOR, Feb 19 — A total of RM155,000 has been allocated by the state government as monetary aid contribution to the next of kin of the 31 victims who perished in the landslide tragedy at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite, Batang Kali.

The aid handover ceremony was completed by state executive councillor for rural development Borhan Aman Shah at the Hulu Selangor Jelajah Kita Selangor Penyayang (JKSP) roadshow today.

According to him, the amount of assistance for each victim is RM5,000.

“This is the first time (the state government) has given assistance. This is particularly given to the next of kin which totals to RM5,000 for each victim.

“So far, we are giving financial assistance first, but if there are other needs, we will consider them, maybe in terms of care and so on. We will see what the issues are because not all of those involved are from Selangor, there are some from Melaka and other states,” he said when met after the Hulu Selangor JKSP programme at the Batang Kali Oasis, here today.

A total of 13 recipients from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur representing 25 victims received the state government’s contribution amounting to RM125,000 today.

The remaining two recipients covering six victims from Penang and Melaka will be managed in the near future by the Selangor State Disaster Management Unit as the aid secretariat.

The landslide tragedy at the campsite in Batang Kali on December 16 last year claimed 31 lives, 12 of whom were children and a one-year-old baby boy, while 61 people survived.
