SHAH ALAM, Feb 3 — The National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (PRABN) under the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) has issued a flash flood preparedness notice involving five Selangor districts.

According to the notice issued at 4pm on Twitter, the five districts involved are Klang, Kuala Langat, Kuala Selangor, Petaling and Sepang.

“Other affected states are Johor (Batu Pahat, Kota Tinggi, Muar, Pontian and Tangkak), Melaka (Alor Gajah, Jasin and Melaka Tenga), Pahang (Bera, Maran, Raub and Temerloh) and Perak (Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak and Perak Tengah).

“Meanwhile in East Malaysia, Sarawak (Kuching, Limbang, Miri, Samarahan, Serian and Sibu) is also at risk for flash food,” said the agency.

According to PRABN, the risk is based on rainfall forecast information from the Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) model by the Malaysan Meteorological Department and the Southeastern Asia-Oceania Flash Flood Guidance System (SAOFFGS) system.

The preparedness notice was issued to enable residents, especially those living in high-risk areas to be alert to any potential flash floods for the 24-hour period.

Residents are advised to follow the instructions issued by the authorities or flood disaster management agencies.
