Registrations for senior citizens’ scheme in Port Klang on rise as many seek the RM150 vouchers

By Norrasyidah Arshad

KLANG, Feb 5 — The number of applicants for Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) in the Port Klang state constituency has increased since the start of the year, said its state assemblyman Azmizam Zaman Huri.

He said this follows the announcement that its voucher value would be increased from RM100 to RM150 per person.

“From Monday to Friday, many seniors have approached the service centre to register for the scheme. Within three days, we received close to 1,000 applicants.

“However, all applications will be reviewed and scrutinized, as some have been discovered to not meet the conditions. This includes those who have been residing Selangor for less than the prescribed period,” Azmizam told SelangorKini yesterday.

Starting this year, the value of SMUE vouchers will be increased to RM150 and the same amount will also be given to Skim Mesra Insan Istimewa (SMIS) participants, with a RM37.5 million allocation.

Similarly, the monthly household income eligibility threshold for Jom Shopping voucher recipients has also been increased from RM2,000 to RM3,000.

Previously, SMUE participants received a RM100 shopping voucher at selected supermarkets during the month of their birth month, which could be obtained at their respective community service centres.
