AMPANG, Feb 12 — A total of RM5 million has been allocated for the installation of solar lights throughout Selangor which aims to improve the safety of road users, said the state executive councillor for infrastructure and public utilities Izham Hashim.

He said the first phase installation of solar lights which began in November last year was completed in December involving 31 constituencies.

“For phase one, a total of 300 solar lights were installed in Pandan Indah, Sungai Ramal, Bukit Melawati and Selat Klang. The lights are installed in red which symbolises the Selangor flag.

“Alhamdulillah (Praise God), the feedback received was positive and the lights are bright. The second phase starts in March and we expect the installation to be fully completed in May,” he said after officiating the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) Perwira Jaya Hall, here yesterday.

At the same time, Izham also asked state representatives to identify specific locations that can help the surrounding residents.

“We hope these solar lights are installed on roads that are not focused on by local authorities and the Malaysian Highways Board (LLM).

“State representatives can choose which area they want to install because they each receive 10 solar lamp posts that cost RM8,000 each,” he said.
