Water turbidity in Sg Gong, no WTPs affected — LUAS

By Jerry Choong

SHAH ALAM, Feb 1 — The Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) detected water turbidity in Sungai Gong earlier this afternoon, which did not have an adverse effect on water treatment plant (WTP) operations.

An immediate investigation was launched, and it determined the water turbidity was coming from a construction site that was carrying out ground works.

“LUAS has conducted sampling to complete its paperwork, and enforcement action has been taken per Sections 59 and 78 of the LUAS Enactment 1999.

“Among others, we will continue to examine the surrounding area to identify the source of the black-coloured water flow which was also detected in Sungai Gong,” it said in a statement.

LUAS added the situation remains under control, with a solution being worked on as speedily as possible.

“We have determined the WTPs situated downstream of the river’s flow do not face the possibility of disruptions to their operations, and LUAS remains prepared to carry out 24-hour monitoring of Sungai Selangor’s basin,” it said.
