Batu Pahat flood situation improving

JOHOR BAHRU, March 22 — The flood situation in Batu Pahat has continued to improve, with the number of evacuees dropping to 1,813 people as of 4pm today, compared with 2,540 people reported at 8am.

The state Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), in a statement, said three temporary relief centres were closed, namely centres at the Parit Yaani community hall, Sekolah Agama Sri Tanjung and Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Tanjung, as floodwaters have completely receded in the area.

“Meanwhile, a total of 490 families are currently placed in 17 relief centres which are still operating,” read the statement.

JPBN also said that no river has recorded a dangerous level, thus far.

Fine weather is expected in seven districts this afternoon, but Johor Bahru, Pontian and Kluang are expected to experience rain.
