SHAH ALAM, March 17 — Selangor has built nine facilities for skateboarding in several locations to meet the demand of the sports enthusiast.

State executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the facilities have been built and upgraded by the local authorities to support the development of the sport.

“The state government always supports the development and activities of the sport by providing and upgrading sports facilities.

“The construction of this skateboard rink covers several locations that have high demand,” he said in answer to Kota Anggerik assemblyman Najwan Halimi’s questions during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session today.

The location of the skateboard court includes Taman Sukan Lasak Seksyen 13, Shah Alam; Arena MBPJ Skatepark, USJ 11 Subang Jaya; Taman Serdang Jaya Seri Kembangan dan Taman Belia @ Youth Park, BBST Skate Park.

It is also available at the Klang District Youth and Sports Office, Skate Park Andalas, Klang; AU5, Taman Lembah Keramat; Padang Taman Awam Kencana Indah, Taman Pandan Indah; Taman Sri Gombak dan Skate Park Dataran Banting.

In the meantime, Mohd Khairuddin said there are no specific development programmes for skateboarding as it is not a focused and high-performing sport in Selangor or even nationally.

He said major tournaments such as the SEA games and Asian Games, the National Sports Council (MSN) has placed them in category C, with all allocations and fundings fully borne by the national sports association.

“Compared to sports categorised at level A, it is fully borne by MSN and the Malaysian Olympic Council, while category B is partly borne by MSN and the Malaysian Olympic Council and partly by national sports associations,” he said.
