Collect unsold food at Ramadan bazaars, distribute to those in need

SHAH ALAM, March 29 — Team Selangor will initiate the MySaveFood project at five Ramadan bazaar locations from March 31 to April 13.

Its head of the secretariat Syahaizel Keman said the unsold food collection programme would include the Ramadan bazaars in Bandar Baru Ampang, Jalan Kebun and Lembah Subang.

He said the initiative is also carried out at the Kampung Sungai Gulang-Gulang 2 Ramadan bazaar and Section 4 and 10 restaurants in Shah Alam.

“This programme is initiated to prevent food wastage by the Ramadan bazaar traders. The idea is to collect the leftovers that are still in good condition to be consumed.

“The food would then be distributed to those in need, such as mosque parishioners, students of higher education institutions, madrasahs, orphanages and the asnaf group,” he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, Syahaizel said that the volunteers would also be involved in distributing the Kita Selangor programme throughout the month of Ramadan.

“We will collaborate with Cibiuk restaurant, which will involve the distribution of 800 meals to the asnaf group in four areas in the state,” he added.
