Conference gathers big names, becomes platform to strengthen country’s halal industry

KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 — The second edition of the 2023 Selangor International Halal Conference (Selhac) which begins today until Sunday will strengthen the country’s halal industry.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the event this time included various activities in addition to the participation of more than 200 exhibitors who are also big names in the industry from home and abroad.

He said the main components include business forums, Islamic finance, exhibitions, business matching, halal supply chain and digital marketing.

“This time, we are holding a wider range of activities. We need to be creative, disciplined and focused to develop it. We are confident that this exhibition can be a platform to continue learning and increase the network of cooperation,” he said after officiating Selhac, here today.

Amirudin is also confident that the programme can develop to the likes of Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) and the Selangor Aviation Show (SAS) which is held every year.

“More than 200 exhibitors have participated in this programme. Based on the feedback, we believe it will continue to grow and it excites us to establish the halal industry firmly in Selangor,” he said.

In addition to the participation of state agencies including Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI and the Selangor Department of Islamic Affairs, the conference also attracted the interest of Bank Islam, Bank Muamalat, Penang Halal International and Melaka Halal Hub.

Other big names that participated include Farm Fresh Malaysia, Sate Kajang Hj. Samurai, Nims Crispy Chocotub, Hameediyah Restaurant and Hijrah Selangor Foundation.

Themed ‘Selangor, International Halal Gate’, the 2023 Selhac was officiated by Amirudin at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today.

Also present were state executive councillor for halal industries Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, Selangor State Secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim and MBI chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek.

During the event, Amirudin witnessed the exchange of memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Bank Islam and its subsidiary MBI Halal International Selangor (His).

He also visited the exhibition which gathered about 200 exhibitors from home and abroad, including Bangladesh, Australia, United Kingdom, Thailand, Vietnam and Canada.

Running from 9am to 5pm, the programme targets business matching value of RM50 million in addition to visitor presence of over 8,000 people.

Selhac was first organised in March last year at the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC) with the participation of over 200 exhibitors and recorded transactions of RM37.73 million.
