Exco: Over 3,000 jobs offered via two mega job fairs in 2022

SHAH ALAM, March 15 — A total of 3,053 successful candidates received job offers through two of the Selangor Mega Job Fair programmes last year.

State executive councillor for youth and human capital development Mohd Khairuddin Othman said that the state administration plans to host the job fair twice again this year to offer more opportunities for the youths and improve the standards of living for the Selangor people.

He also stated that the unemployment rate in the state dropped to 2.9 per cent in 2022 in comparison to 4.3 per cent in the previous year.

“Based on the data from DOSM (Department of Statistics Malaysia), the unemployment rate recorded in rural areas is low.

“For example, in 2021, the unemployment rate in Kuala Langat is at 3.3 per cent, Kuala Selangor at 4.3 per cent, Sabak Bernam at 3.9 per cent Hulu Selangor at 3.3 per cent.

“According to the data, the rate of youths who migrated from rural to urban areas in Selangor is at 11 per cent while youths from outside of Selangor who moved to the state are 14 per cent,” he said in answering a question by Sungai Burong state assemblyman Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias on the state government’s efforts and measures to enhance job prospects for unemployed youths, especially school leavers in rural areas, during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting, here today.

Mohd Khairuddin said aside from the Selangor Mega Job Fair, several other programmes held by the state administration for school leavers include the Smart Selangor Technical and Professional Skills Initiative (Kemahiran Teknikal and Ikhtisas Smart Selangor or Iktisass), Selangor Kerjaya, and Jelajah Jobcare.

“In 2022, 39,278 job opportunities in various sectors, including automotive, information technology, hospitality, sports, marketing and sales, food and beverage (F&B), retail, administration and services, as well as other industries were offered at the Selangor Mega Job Fair programme.

“This mega programme is a proactive effort to open up more space and chances in helping the unemployed youths in finding employment. The programme featured open interviews (walk-in interviews) by the employers and the sharing of career advice,” he said.

As for the Jelajah Jobcare programme, in collaboration with the Social Security Organisation (Socso), Mohd Khairuddin said 1,495 people participated in the event and 892 of them secured a job placement.

The Paya Jaras state assemblyman said in 2022, the programme was held in the districts of Klang, Petaling, Sepang, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Kuala Langat and Sabak Bernam.

“This year, the programme will continue as an annual event under the Standing Committee on Employee Empowerment involving nine Selangor districts,” he added.
