SHAH ALAM, March 14 — A total of RM29,820 of the RM1 million allocation for Selangor Legal Aid Fund (DBGS) programme has been spent in the last six months from September 2022 to March 6, 2023.

State executive councillor for caring government V Ganabatirau said the funds were channelled to the Selangor Lawyers Committee to offer free legal services which solved 15 of the 19 cases reported during the period.

“This committee received 12 family case applications. Five of them are in cour process, while the rest are in preliminary stages before court proceedings.

“In addition, three more are employment cases, one in court process and two in the early stages before court proceedings,” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session today in response to a question from Permatang assemblyman Rozana Zainal Abidin.

Ganabatirau added that four applications were rejected and three of them were not in the DBGS programme category.

He said the rest of the applications were rejected due to not filing a complaint related to unfair dismissal at the Industrial Court within 60 days after the termination of his employment.

Selangor became the first state to provide free legal aid to low-income people with an allocation of RM1 million.

A scheme to resolve family (civil) issues, employment and public interest cases to ensure the community is not oppressed and marginalised.
