February 2023 vehicle sales up 39 pct to 62,649 units — MAA

KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 — Vehicle sales in Malaysia jumped 39 per cent to 62,649 units in February this year against 45,062 units during the same month last year due to the delivery of backlog orders, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

In a statement today, the association said the total industry volume for February 2023 was 27 per cent higher than January 2023’s 49,479 units.

Year-to-date February sales volume was higher at 112,128 units versus 86,595 units during the corresponding period in 2022.

Sales of passenger vehicles rose to 55,555 units in February 2023 versus 40,119 units in February 2022, and sales of commercial vehicles increased to 7,094 units during the month under review from 4,943 units previously, MAA said.

A total of 63,798 vehicles were produced in February 2023 compared to 51,291 units in the same month last year. Passenger vehicle production stood at 59,843 units versus 47,445 units a year ago. Commercial vehicle production amounted to 3,955 units versus 3,846 units previously.

On the outlook for March 2023, MAA expects the sales volume to be higher than February 2023, driven by a delivery rush by companies with their financial year ending on March 31, 2023, Hari Raya festive season promotional campaigns and fulfilment of bookings made during the sales exemption period.
