LZS distributes over RM30 mln in zakat to help target groups

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 — The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) today began distributing zakat (tithe) assistance worth over RM30 million to 65,000 recipients from hardcore poor asnaf, poor and mualaf (convert) throughout Selangor to help them make early preparations for Ramadan and Aidilfitri celebration this year.

LZS chief executive officer Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini said each recipient would receive between RM300 and RM1,000 depending on the number of dependents in the family.

“The assistance will be channelled through payments credited to the recipient’s bank account, using cash vouchers and cash handouts at LZS branches throughout the state.

“Notifications to eligible recipients will be made via SMS to phone numbers registered with Zakat Selangor.

“To make it easier for asnaf, they can check the assistance status at ezo.zakatselangor.com.my or contact Selangor Zakat Line, ” he said at the symbolic launch of the programme here today.

Mohd Sabirin said of the total amount of distribution, RM9 million was distributed to 18,550 recipients among the hardcore poor asnaf, while another RM19.4 million was distributed to 41,770 poor and RM1.6 million to 4,499 converts.

Mohd Sabirin said this year, the Petaling and Klang districts recorded the highest number of funds distributions involving an allocation of RM5.5 million and RM5.4 million respectively.

“In the Hulu Langat district, RM4.4 million in assistance is being distributed to 9,415 recipients, and in Kuala Selangor, it’s RM3.1 million (6,979 recipients), Gombak RM3.1 million (6,775), Hulu Selangor RM2.4 million (5,446), Sabak Bernam RM2.1 million (4,956), Kuala Langat RM2.2 million (4,708) and Sepang RM1.3 million (2,999).
