Madani not mere slogan, a commitment to build better society — MB

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

PUTRAJAYA, March 20 — The concept of Malaysia Madani introduced by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is not just a government slogan to define his leadership as prime minister, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

On the other hand, the Menteri Besar said the concept brings Malaysia’s commitment to improving life for a society open to all races and religions.

“As soon as the prime minister explains what a Madani country is made up of, a lot of people will give their opinion, whether it’s positive or negative, and some people will also be intrigued.

“Some even think that it is a government slogan used by the prime minister that describes his leadership,” said Amirudin at the Perdana Putrajaya Dialogue 2023 with the theme Membangun Negara Madani (Developing a Madani Nation) at Zenith Hotel, here today.

The Gombak MP had also invited others to learn more about the concept so that it could be adopted effectively.

“As civil servants who are administrators in driving the current development, it is time to delve and better understand what is Madani so that it would not merely become a slogan that is delivered through speeches but is appreciated.

“This is because the implementation of Madani would be pushed through government programmes and it is best that it reaches the grassroots level,” he said.

In his speech, Amirudin also touched on the Madani concept based on the current situation and the environment that is always changing.

“Urban development is changing, and a planner’s job isn’t just to construct buildings and infrastructure land, air, and water.

“If we separate ourselves from nature and the environment around us, the planning and running of a city become more rigid.

“This is why the six core values of a Madani society, such as sustainability, innovation, compassion and prosperity, is to respond to the environment and present times,” he said.

On January 19, the prime minister introduced the Madani concept as the way forward for Malaysia and a society that embraces different races and cultures.

Madani consists of six core values, namely sustainability (kemampanan), prosperity (kesejateraan), innovation (daya cipta), respect (hormat), trust keyakinan and compassion (ihsan).
