Nine shelter homes obtain grants totalling RM180,000 to upgrade facilities

SHAH ALAM, March 14 — Nine shelter homes in Selangor have received grants totalling RM180,000 from the state government to upgrade facilities at their respective premises.

State executive councillor for women and family development Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the grants will also be used to improve staff’s skills and to enhance women after leaving the shelters.

“The state government has also given grants for Intensive Children’s Development Course to 10 caregivers, totalling RM2,000 each to improve their services,” she said during her speech at the 2023 Selangor International Women’s Day Celebration, which was officiated by the Women and Family Development Deputy Minister Athirah Sabu in Sepang on March 11.

During the event, 10 female leaders received various awards for their respective achievements including Female Entrepreneurship, Young Women and Women With Disabilities awards.

Meanwhile, Dr Siti Mariah announced that there are 12 initiatives that have been implemented and to be implemented by the Women’s Development Committee this year with an allocation of over RM4 million.

She said the initiatives include six programmes that have been conducted annually while the rest are new programmes such as the Selangor Female Influencer (Gadis) and Sidang Wanita Selangor (Siwanis).

“(Other programmes) include shelter grants, child care centres and M40 kindergartens subsidies, Young Digital Media Enterpreneur Incentive as well as Single Mothers Economic Development Incentive,” she added.
