RM10.9 mln of incentives redeemed under Tourism Recovery Plan 2022 — Deputy minister

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 — The Tourism Recovery Plan 2022, which offers incentives to the people in the form of discounts, vouchers and rebates, has recorded a total redemption of RM10.9 million last year.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Khairul Firdaus Akhbar Khan said the plan which aims to boost domestic tourism benefitted a total of 248,450 individuals with recorded sales of RM40.67 million.

In addition, he said in order to stimulate tourism, Tourism Malaysia is involved in 21 domestic tourism exhibitions including the Jom Cuti-Cuti Malaysia Roadshow 2022, Tourism Malaysia Travel Fair and the Malaysian Association of Travel and Tourism Agents (Matta) exhibition as well as state domestic tourism exhibitions .

“This tourism exhibition has attracted the participation of 394 agencies and operators of tourism products including accommodation from all over the country with total sales reaching RM15.2 million,” Khairul Firdaus said at the opening speech of the Domestic Tourism Appreciation ceremony here today.

The Tourism Recovery Plan 2022, which was launched in May last year, aims to increase the mobility of Malaysians to travel and spend through various land, air and accommodation discounts.

He said the ministry through Tourism Malaysia this year will continue to step up the promotion of domestic tourism including by selling packages directly to consumers by holding Jom Cuti-Cuti Malaysia Roadshow, Tourism Malaysia Travel Fair and MATTA Fair.

“I believe activities such as glamping, agro tourism, bird watching, star gazing, homestay, cycling as well as historical and heritage trails, are among those that can be explored to strengthen the growing ecotourism sector.

“The fact is, more creative package offerings need to take into account the added value that will be enjoyed by tourists. I am sure, there are still many more locations and tourism products that can be highlighted in this country,” Khairul Firdaus said.
