Selangor encourages eateries to promote Menu Rahmah due to rising living costs — Exco

SHAH ALAM, March 3 — The State Government is encouraging restaurant operators to promote the Menu Rahmah initiative on their respective premises to help the wider society at large, especially students.

State executive councillor for consumer affairs Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said traders can voluntarily offer Menu Rahmah, to deal with the rising costs of living.

“So far, the Menu Rahmah promotion has been well-received among consumers, especially by low-income groups. I have also observed that the quality of the food on offer is appropriate and reasonable for the price.

“As such, the state government encourages any traders to willingly follow the Menu Rahmah initiative, in order to help the people reduce their expenses which has affected their income,” he said.

Mohd Zawawi was speaking at the launch of the state-level Menu Rahmah programme, held simultaneously at Kafe Sentral in Section 14 and Thai Deli Restaurant in Section 7, earlier today.

He said he hopes the initiative, with offers at low prices, will attract more customers and contribute to society.

The Federal government recently introduced Menu Rahmah, which offers meals priced at RM5 and below, specifically for the hardcore poor.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said the public can now enjoy lunch and dinner for RM5 per plate, at nearly 15,000 food premises nationwide from January 31 onwards.

The ministry is open to any organisation seeking to utilise the Rahmah brand, on the condition that it aims to help the people. Menu Rahmah providers offering food for as low as RM5 must ensure the quality of the food they are selling is maintained.
