Selangor victorious in 2023 Maksak Rugby 10s

IPOH, March 12 — Selangor were crowned the 2023 Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (Maksak) Rugby 10s champion after scoring a comprehensive 19-0 victory over PDRM in the Cup competition at the Perak Rugby Stadium, here today.

The victory was all the more meaningful since Selangor, coached by former National rugby player Raimi Mohd Yusof, had lost to ATM 3 – 0 in the final of the previous MAKSAK edition.

In today’s match, Selangor showed total dominance right from the start to take a 7 – 0 lead by the ninth minute through a try and conversion by Muhammad Nazreen Fitri Nasrudin and Muhammad Faridzur Ismail.

Selangor started the second half with the same pace and by the 13th minute were leading 14 – 0 when Muhammad Farid Fauzi completed a try and Muhammad Nazreen Fitri once again completed the conversion.

Muhammad Nazreen Fitri, who was a constant thorn in the PDRM defence, completed the rout in the 20th minute with a try but there was no conversion.

Meanwhile, in the playoff for the Shield, Melaka scored a convincing 17 – 5 win over Penang while Johor whipped Pahang 48-0 to clinch the Bowl category title.
