State govt committed to conserving uniqueness of Batu Arang city

SHAH ALAM, March 10 — The Selangor government is committed to protecting the uniqueness of the Batu Arang through the Batu Arang Special Area Plan (RKK) Draft 2030.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said that following the completion of the public hearing process, the state administration will review and process the feedback received.

“The meeting with the public hearing committee is the next step after the publicity and public participation programme of the Batu Arang Draft RKK 2030, whichwas held last October.

“We received a total of seven feedback in this (yesterday) session,” said in a Facebook post yesterday.

Ng said among the suggestions that got his attention was by the preservation of the Masjid Jamek Batu Arang, which was raised by the mosque’s committee members.

Also present at the meeting yesterday at the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) headquarters were MPS deputy president Adi Faizal Ahmad Tarmizi and PlanMalaysia Selangor director Khairulzaman Ibrahim.

In October last year, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari launched the publicity and public participation event of the Batu Arang RKK Draft 2030, which opens up the opportunity for the public to submit views, ideas and objections to the RKK.

The RKK draft is prepared based on the requirements of the Town and Country Planning Act 1976 (Act 172) and the National Heritage Act 2005 (Act 645).

Ng had previously said that the RKK is part of a conservation management plan to protect an area of heritage interest, site development control and future planning without affecting the site’s heritage standards.

He said the plan can also be used as a reference for the community and the general public, especially those who reside living in the Batu Arang area, to manage and safeguard heritage and historical sites.
