Alice appointed as Mavcom’s member for three years

PUTRAJAYA, April 11 — Datuk Alice Jawan Empaling has been appointed as a member of the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) for three years effective March 28, 2023, to March 27, 2026.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke in a statement today said Mavcom would benefit greatly from Alice’s insights and look forward to working with her.

Alice is the current Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) since October 1, 2022.

She also holds several senior management and board positions in Sarawak including her role as Chairman of the Buoys and Lights Board Sarawak, Executive Chairman of the Sarawak Road Safety Council and Deputy Chairman of the Sarawak Rivers Board.

“MOT and Mavcom are delighted to welcome Alice’s appointment to the Commission. Her expertise, wide-ranging experience, and passion for serving the public will be instrumental in propelling Malaysia’s aviation industry forward,” said Loke.

In a separate statement, Mavcom executive chairman Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim expressed confidence that Alice’s breadth of experience will be instrumental in strengthening Mavcom’s efforts to promote a commercially viable, consumer-oriented, and resilient aviation industry which supports the nation’s economic growth.

“The addition of Alice to the Commission would especially aid the implementation of Mavcom’s various initiatives particularly pertaining to East Malaysia, namely the administration of Rural Air Services in the interiors of Sabah and Sarawak.

“Her appointment brings the perspective of women in the transportation industry, particularly for air transport.

“We look forward to her contribution that will further enhance diversity and inclusivity at Mavcom that would ultimately affect a positive impact on the Commission,” he said.
