Dapur Selangor gathers 56 traditional, modern culinary recipies

SHAH ALAM, April 12 — The state government, via Wanita Berdaya Selangor, has published a book called Dapur Selangor, featuring 56 cooking recipes.

State executive councillor of women and family Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the 91-page book has a variety of unique recipes from all 56 state constituencies in Selangor.

“The book came about when we were casually chatting about recipes, and what the state’s culinary identity is. Similar to how when you go to Terengganu there is nasi dagang, nasi kerabu in Kelantan, and laksa in Kedah.

“This book was published when we started talking casually about recipes and what is the culinary identity of this state, while when we go to Terengganu we will be served with nasi dagang, Kelantan nasi kerabu, Kedah laksa.

“Then it occured to us as to what can be served in Selangor. So as a present to one and all, we collected a recipe from each state constituency, which includes traditional and modern dishes, as well as desserts,” she said.

Dr Siti Mariah was speaking at a press conference following the Majlis Khatam al-Quran Perdana Wanita Selangor event, at Dewan Jubli Sultan Abdul Aziz in the State Secretariat Building yesterday evening.

Also in attendance was the Selangor Women’s Welfare and Charity Organisation (Pekawanis) president Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad.

Dapur Selangor can be purchased online here, for RM35 a copy.

On their parts, Dr Siti Mariah presented her own personal recipe of mee bandung while Masdiana presented a recipe for sup kambing berempah, among several other interesting dishes.
