MPS clears clogged drains caused by Rawang Perdana slope collapse

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, April 30 — The Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) will clear the drains along the slope collapse area in Rawang Perdana 5, so as to reduce the soil load.

Rawang state assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said the district disaster committee has also closed the road in the nearby area, in order to prevent any safety risks to residents.

“MPS will try to clean the drains, but we remain concerned if the landowner should again present legal documents.

“This is because the area (where the works will be carried out) is private property, so we hope the owner will be cooperative,” he said when contacted.

Chua added he plans to meet with the landowner, which will be arranged by the District and Land Office, in order to find a solution to the issue.

He said in 2020, MPS was prevented by the landowner from installing canvas in the slope area, via a legal letter.

“The owner presented the legal letter, which made the slope repair works more challenging.

“To this, Selayang MP William Leong and I will contact the landowner for discussions, and for there to be accountability,” Chua said.

The heavy rainfall yesterday resulted in soil movement and the slope collapsing in Rawang Perdana 5.

This affected the safety of around 60 families residing nearby, who allege similar incidents occurred in 2018 and 2020.
