MPS identifies campsites which have yet to register

By Azian Aziz

SELAYANG, April 1 — Nine camping grounds located in areas under the jurisdiction of the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) have been identified as unregistered premises.

Its Deputy President Adi Faizal Ahmad Tarmizi said the council is still waiting for all operators to register, as the deadline to do so ended yesterday.

“Overall there are 11 campsites in areas under MPS, with two of them possessing the relevant permits and business licenses.

“We are still waiting for the operator’s responses for the remaining nine, as the deadline ends today. So they can register either today afternoon or on Monday (April 3),” he said during the council’s third monthly meeting for 2023 yesterday.

Adi Faizal said he hopes all campsite operators will both register and implement the rules set by the state government.

“Merely registering will not solve any problems. They must also ensure the area is safe, the place is suitable, with a way in and out. In the event of an emergency, a security team can go in, so it has to be checked thoroughly,” he said.

Beginning on February 1, it has been made compulsory for all campsite operators in Selangor to register with their respective local authorities, in order to guarantee the safety of their visitors.

This comes in the wake of the Batang Kali landslide tragedy on December 16 last year at Father’s Organic Farm, which claimed 31 lives and injured seven.

Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the guidelines on the stipulations and rules for camping activities will be enforced, to ensure the preservation of lives.
