SHAH ALAM, April 11 — Up to 850 low-income families from the B40 group residing in the Dengkil state constituency received RM170,000 in Jom Shopping Aidilfitri vouchers.

Its chief coordinator Datuk Romli Ishak said the handover of the vouchers will be done in stages, with the first phase already carried out and involving 277 recipients.

“The remainder will be handed over in the second phase on April 15, so as to allow the recipients to make early preparations for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“Hopefully, this will ameliorate some of their hardships in preparing to celebrate Aidilfitri with their families,” he told SelangorKini.

Romli added that Aidilfitri aid by the Women’s Welfare and Charitable Organization (Pekawanis) was also presented to 10 recipients, with each receiving RM200.

For this year a total of 37,250 underprivileged families in Selangor received the RM200 shopping vouchers for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, at a RM7.45 million allocation.

The state government has readied a total of RM16.48 million for the vouchers under the Jom Shopping initiative, during the tabling of the 2023 Selangor Budget on November 25 last year.

The voucher rates have also been increased from their previous value of RM100, and the minimum monthly income eligibility threshold has been raised from RM2,000 to RM3,000, which is expected to benefit 82,400 recipients statewide.
