Plats introduces prog to distribute RM5 coupons at Ramadan bazaars

SHAH ALAM, April 7 — The Selangor Platform (Plats) has introduced the Plats 2023 Ramadan Bazaar programme by giving away RM5 Plats Rahmah coupons to members of the public.

Under the auspices of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI, the initiative is meant as a form of encouragement to bazaar traders in diversifying their marketing channels via its digital platforms, as well as easing the burden of coupon recipients in purchasing fast-breaking meals.

MBI chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek said the state investment arm is cooperating with local authorities in preparing a development, plan to that end.

“The plan includes providing guidance as well as digital training and entrepreneurship, to create a robust and sustainable digital economic ecosystem.

“In conjunction with the ongoing Ramadan fasting month, Plats is introducing a special Ramadan bazaar for traders and visitors from all over the state, to connect online in facilitating the process of searching for and purchasing fast-breaking meals without having to congest the bazaars,” she said in a statement.

Traders with valid business permits from their respective local authorities to operate in Ramadan bazaars can qualify for the Plats 2023 Ramadan Bazaar programme. Registration is free, and applicants will also recieve free Rahmah coupons.

Meanwhile, 10,000 coupons have been distributed to the public statewide since Wednesday (April 5). Those interested in obtaining the coupons may check the list of locations and set dates on Plats’ official social media platforms.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari introduced Plats during the Covid-19 pandemic, so as to enable traders and hawkers to their businesses online, in line with the state government’s aspirations to make Selangor supportive of digitisation initiatives, per the First Selangor Plan (RS-1).

“Taking into account the rapid economic development and the widespread use of digital technology, in addition to environmental sustainability and a high quality of life, Plats can assist its target group of small-and-medium micro traders in Selangor to augment their income,” he said.
