Selangor approves RM1.5 mln to upgrade new villages as of March — Exco

SUBANG JAYA, April 8 — The state government has allocated a total of RM4 million to develop the infrastructure of Selangor’s new villages, under this year’s development and upgrading programme.

State executive councillor for new village development Ng Sze Han said as of March, RM1.5 million has been approved for road paving and drainage and irrigation upgrades.

“In addition, they include the projects to repair basketball courts and several others amenities for the new village community development programme.

“We hope for an increase in the allocations to upgrade all 77 new villages in Selangor,” he said.

Ng was speaking at the officiation of the Fiesta Selangor New Village-ING event, at the Pavilion Bukit Jalil shopping centre yesterday, which was attended by Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming.

The councillor added that new villages in Malaysia are not merely settlements tied to history and the past, but a manifestation of the nation’s unique circumstances in which families of various Chinese sub-ethnicities lived with each other harmoniously.

“There is no other place in the world where you can find a ‘product’ (village) such as this with its own uniqueness and attraction,” he said.

During the tabling of the 2023 Selangor Budget on November 25 last year, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced the RM4 million allocation for new village development projects and programmes.

This was higher than the allocation channelled in 2022, which stood at RM3.6 million.
