Transit van services for Sungai Tua residents by next month — MB

By Diana Abd Wahab

GOMBAK, April 13 — The Sungai Tua state constituency will provide free on-demand transit van service (DRT) starting next month.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the service will make it easier for residents, particularly those living in areas lacking the Smart Selangor Bus service.

“We will add buses and transport vans to collect residents from areas or small roads to the main road of the Smart Selangor bus route, so they can use the free bus service.

“We have already chosen one or two routes, and it depends on their suitability before operations commence sometime next month or in June,” he said to SelangorKini.

Amirudin was speaking at a prayer session and fast-breaking meal with 300 congregants of Surau Al-Karimiah, at Kampung Laksamana yesterday evening.

He added the transit van service will resolve the last-mile problem of public transport users, who had to walk some distance in order to use the free bus service.

During the tabling of the 2023 Selangor Budget on November 25 last year, the Menteri Besar said the state government has allocated RM25 million to augment the public transportation system, under the Selangor Mobiliti programme.

Approximately RM22 million will be allocated to 11 local authorities for the continuation of the Selangor Smart Bus, with the remaining RM3 million to go to the implementation of Selangor Mobiliti Phase One, which includes DRT van services.

Amirudin said the service will complete the state’s public transport ecosystem, and function based on demand through a smart routing app, in contrast to a stop-and-go bus.
