ALOR SETAR, May 9 — Some 200 Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) personnel from Kedah, Perlis and Penang will be assigned to the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA  ’23), which will be held from May 23 to May 27.

Kedah JBPM director, senior assistant fire commissioner Sayani Saidon, said the department has prepared plans to ensure effective search-and-rescue (SAR) operations as their focus would be on sea, land and air SAR.

“On May 17, about 20 per cent of our personnel would already be in Langkawi to start making preparations and bringing in JBPM assets such as machinery and equipment. The rest will arrive on May 21,” he said when met at the Kedah JBPM Raya Open House yesterday night.

Meanwhile, Sayani said the department is always on alert for any disaster that may occur following the monsoon transition.

“As the weather can be very unpredictable due to the current monsoon transition phase, we need to be on standby. However, there is no extreme weather condition and peat fires are under control,” he said.

Themed The Nexus of Asia’s Maritime and Aerospace Trade, Lima ’23 is set to return from May 23 to May 27, after the last time biennial exhibition was held in 2019.
