Data recovery, data protection services at HAWANA mini carnival

IPOH, May 27 — The two-day mini carnival at Mydin Mall Meru, which began today and is being held in conjunction with National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2023, is offering visitors services and information on data protection and data recovery.

Cybersecurity Malaysia Data Recovery engineer Muhd Anis Farhan Yahaya said the agency offers data recovery services for those who wish to retrieve lost data from a damaged hard drive or pen drive.

“Those interested in recovering lost data can seek advice at our booth,” he said when met at the exhibition.

In addition, Muhd Anis said Cybersecurity Malaysia provides other services such as MyCERT Cyber 999, through which the public can lodge complaints about online scams, as well as forensic data to help the police in a criminal investigation.

The HAWANA Mini Carnival 2023 also saw the participation of the Personal Data Protection Department, with the aim of educating visitors and media practitioners on the importance of data protection.

Its officer Mohd Rizan Ishak said members of the public who want to collect data and learn how to manage personal data to prevent data leaks are welcome to visit the department’s exhibition booth.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) People’s Events manager Zurhaimy Madon said the agency has prepared four programmes for visitors to the carnival.

“We have four programmes, namely Saya Digital Literasi, Saya Digital Freelance, Saya Digital Business, and Saya Digital Career. We will continue to educate the public on career advancement and how to generate income.

Other participating agencies at the mini carnival include Bernama, the Department of Information Malaysia, RTM, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Tourism Perak, Media Sarawak, The Vibes.Com and Getaran. My, Institut Darul Ridzuan, Selama District Council, National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) and PerakFM.

The date May 29 was gazetted as National Journalists’ Day in conjunction with the publication of the first edition of the Malay newspaper, Utusan Melayu, on May 29, 1939.
