IPOH, May 27 — The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) will continue its effort to bring the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) celebration to other states including Sabah and Sarawak, said its minister Fahmi Fadzil.
He said following the organisation of the celebration outside Kuala Lumpur namely in Melaka last year and this year in Perak, there is a need to bring the celebration to the whole country to involve all media practitioners.
“…perhaps among the locations we can consider are Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and Kuching, Sarawak depending on the suitability of our media partners,” Fahmi said when met after inspecting the preparations for the opening ceremony of the HAWANA 2023 celebration at the Casuarina Convention Centre, Casuarina Hotel, earlier today.
Besides allowing the media practitioners to discuss and exchange ideas, hosting the celebration in the states would enable them to express the constraints and challenges they are facing working in different locations in the country.
On the preparations for the highlight of the celebration, Fahmi said he is satisfied, adding he hopes the celebration would be an annual programme under the ministry’s calendar of events.
“It is a good opportunity for media practitioners as once a year at least the media (fraternity) can gather to present their views and exchange opinions on the direction of this industry,” he said.
Earlier, Kuching Division Journalists’ Association (KDJA) president Ronnie Teo Teck Wei said media practitioners in Sarawak expressed hope to bring HAWANA momentum of excitement to the Land of the Hornbills next year.
