Malaysian Defence Minister’s visit underscores warm and long-standing defence ties with Singapore

SINGAPORE, May 9 — The visit of Malaysian Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan to Singapore underscores the warm and long-standing defence ties between the republic and Malaysia.

“The two countries’ defence establishments interact regularly across a wide range of activities, including bilateral and multilateral exercises, visits, professional exchanges, and the cross-attendance of courses.

“These interactions have enhanced the mutual understanding and professional ties between the defence establishments of both countries,” said the city state’s Defence Ministry (Mindef) in a statement today.

According to Mindef, Mohamad called on his Singapore counterpart Ng Eng Hen this morning.

During their meeting, Ng and Mohamad affirmed their commitment to maintain and strengthen bilateral defence ties between Singapore and Malaysia, and both countries’ cooperation on multilateral platforms such as the Asean Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM), the ADMM-Plus and the Five Power Defence Arrangements.

Mohamad who is in Singapore for an introductory visit, also inspected a Guard of Honour at Mindef.

As part of his visit, Mohamad called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and attended an official lunch hosted by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong and Ng.
